Illegal backyard butcher operation shut down in Forest Hills; 17 ducks and geese confiscated

After being contacted by neighbors about ducks allegedly freezing to death outside a home in Forest Hills, Humane Long Island uncovered an illegal backyard slaughter operation across the street from a school. Fed a diet of moldy bagels and stale bread and denied any shelter, the birds were suffering from staph infections, eye infections, and angel-wing, a deformity linked to malnutrition.

Humane Long Island negotiated the surrender of an Emden goose and 16 ducks, including 12 Muscovies, a Runner, two Khaki Campbells, and a Rouen. Following several months of rehabilitation, LION placed the birds with reputable sanctuaries upstate and in Connecticut.
