New York Puppy Mill Bill is Now Law!

We asked you day after day to speak up for animals in mills by calling Governor Andrew Cuomo and asking him to sign A.740a/S.3753a, which would allow local communities to crack down on pet dealers that put profit before animal welfare, into law. Thanks to you, he signed the bill into law today!

“Hopefully there are going to be a lot of good local bills that prevent puppy mills from either gaining a foothold or operating in these localities,” said Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan), a sponsor of the bill. “This is a good step in the giant undertaking of getting rid of puppy mills, which only produce suffering.”

Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION) would like to thank everyone who was instrumental in getting this bill signed, including Assemblywoman Linda B. Rosenthal, Assemblyman Mark Grisanti, Brian Shapiro of The Humane Society of the United States, Bill Ketzer of the ASPCA, Puppy Mill Free NYC, New Yorkers Against Puppy Mills, NYCLASS, Shelter Reform Action Committee, WNY Citizens Against Puppy Mills (WNY CAPM), Hope for Hempstead Shelter, Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue, Companion Animal Protection Society - Long Island, RSVP Inc, Bobbi and the Strays, Karuna For Animals: Compassion In Action, Inc., For Our Friends - Dog Rescue Group and YOU, who have e-mailed, tweeted and called Governor Cuomo daily!
