Suffolk County Parks Department commits to protect snapping turtle nests at Meadow Croft Estate after more than 100 hatchlings are killed
After Bayport resident Karen Hill Maloney discovered more than one hundred Snapping turtle hatchlings killed on the front lawn of the recently mowed Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville, Humane Long Island contacted the Suffolk County Parks department and the media about her gruesome discovery. While the County denied responsibility for the deaths, they've committed to protect these important keystone species at Meadow Croft by shielding hatchling nests with nesting covers moving forward.
