Hopscotch Montessori School ends hatching projects at both its New York City campuses

When Hopscotch Montessori School's hatching project vendor informed the school that they would no longer be taking back babies when the science experiment was completed, educators scrambled for a backup plan, however, these plans fell through after 4 ducklings hatched out of what they were told would be chicken eggs.
After speaking with Humane Long Island, the executive director of Hopscotch Montessori agreed to end these projects, writing "It is our belief that ending these projects is essential for the well-being of the animals and the overall educational environment. We hope with this decision we can support efforts for schools to move away from these projects and find new ways to educate our students on life cycles with a deeper consideration for the animals."
Four ducklings and two chicks, the last animals hatched at Hopscotch Montessori, are now in Humane Long Island's foster care and will be up for adoption soon!
